Project 2
Two Halves of One Year

Photography project that looks at the old and new, natural and artificial aspects of the city. I’ve been studying in the US since my freshman year, therefore spending the majority of my years there. So this summer, after coming back home for the first time in 6 months, I decided to take a walk from my house to the Huangpu River, going through some of the main areas of Shanghai. As I was walking through the city, I took photos of things that stood out to me as I pretended to be someone new to the city. After reviewing the photos, I identified several emerging themes, including the contrast between old and new, as well as the coexistence of nature with the city. Using these photos, I attempted to make collages using elements of each of the photos to show the two themes. I attempted different colors, making the different sections black and white.
